First day of primary

Hannah had her first day of primary yesterday at church. The nursery kids who were going to be sunbeams came into primary for singing time the whole month of December to help prepare them. Hannah did really good and sat her chair and didn't try to come up with me when I was doing singing time. I was very happy about that. I expected Hannah to be just fine yesterday but she wasn't. After singing/sharing time was over, the classes were being excused to go to their classrooms and Hannah started crying. I walked with her to her classroom and tried all of the logic I could think of to get her to stay. Nothing worked. She was crying and clinging to me like I have never seen before. Chad was teaching in High Priests and I had to do singing time in senior primary so I ended up bringing her back with me while I did singing time in senior primary. Luckily she was very quiet and just sat in her chair. I went to class with her for the last half but she did not want to be there. It's hard to explain how she was acting. I was so surprised. The lesson was on "I Am a Child of God" and the kids had colored and made crowns to wear when Hannah was with me in senior primary so she didn't get one. After church, Hannah saw that Spencer also had a crown because the nursery and sunbeam lessons are the same. Hannah was quite upset that she did not have a crown. I took the opportunity to teach Hannah a lesson. I told her that because she had not gone to her class like she was suppose to she missed out on the opportunity to make a crown like those who had gone to class. She understood to a certain degree and it was a big enough deal that I think she will be better next week. I hope so anyways.

On the flip side, Spencer had his best day in nursery and Chad basically dropped him off and left without staying for a little while. He didn't even hardly cry. With the change of the year, Spencer now has two good nursery leaders which is great and there's only two kids for a while as opposed to the 15 who were in there before. More will come in as the year goes by. He'll enjoy that for now though.

We now have church at 2:30 pm which really stinks. That may have accounted for some of Hannah's problems. It's a hard time of day and Hannah is always hungry then. It was hard to get out of church and have it dark outside already.

The first part of the year with that transition is always difficult. She did much better than a couple of our kids though...this Sunday one of our new Sunbeams only made it through part of the classtime before going back to nursery (he wanted to play, so he didn't even come to sharing time, etc.) One of the other boys literally was up and out of his chair walking around for almost the entire time during singing/sharing time. We had a total of 5 adults lending attention to keep putting that little boy back in his chair. I think these first few weeks are definitely going to be rough!

I's sure Hannah will adjust really quickly and love going to her new class.
