Eggs anyone?

This picture definitely needs explaining! Over a month ago I had gotten out of the shower and could hear the kids coughing. Something struck me as odd and out of place. I came down the hallway from my bedroom and could see smoke in the air and heard the microwave running. I stopped the microwave as quickly as possible and found what you see in the above picture upon opening the door. After inquiring into what had happened, Spencer said he was cooking eggs. Well, before getting into the shower I had made sure the kids had things to do to keep them busy and out of trouble while I took my very quick shower (5 minutes max!). Spencer chose to play with the container that had all of the plastic fruits, vegetables, and food items in it. He often wants to play with this. He decided that the plastic over-easy eggs needed to be cooked and proceeded to place it in the microwave and turn it on. Occassionally Spencer pushes buttons on the microwave though he had never started it before nor since. Somehow he got lucky and pushed the start button. I don't know how long it took to "cook" the eggs (though I do know my shower was short) but it was long enough to totally burn the plastic. The time remaining on the microwave was over 7 minutes. The odor from the burnt plastic was so bad and it made my throat burn from inhaling the air. My entire house smelled of burnt plastic including the basement. I had to open every single window in the house (upstairs and downstairs) to air the house out. We actually left for a while because it was so bad and not good for us to breath the fumes. I am glad a fire didn't start or the microwave get ruined. It took some effort to scrap the eggs off the glass plate. I had a nice little talk with Spencer and Hannah. Spencer has not pushed any buttons on the microwave since.

Now why does this sound like a story I would post about Lawson? I'm glad that my little boy isn't the only one who can find "creative" ways to express himself LOL! I can just imagine the smell - burnt plastic is horrid! I'm sure glad he listened to your talk and hasn't played with the microwave since.
