First day of primary

Hannah had her first day of primary yesterday at church. The nursery kids who were going to be sunbeams came into primary for singing time the whole month of December to help prepare them. Hannah did really good and sat her chair and didn't try to come up with me when I was doing singing time. I was very happy about that. I expected Hannah to be just fine yesterday but she wasn't. After singing/sharing time was over, the classes were being excused to go to their classrooms and Hannah started crying. I walked with her to her classroom and tried all of the logic I could think of to get her to stay. Nothing worked. She was crying and clinging to me like I have never seen before. Chad was teaching in High Priests and I had to do singing time in senior primary so I ended up bringing her back with me while I did singing time in senior primary. Luckily she was very quiet and just sat in her chair. I went to class with her for the last half but she did not want to be there. It's hard to explain how she was acting. I was so surprised. The lesson was on "I Am a Child of God" and the kids had colored and made crowns to wear when Hannah was with me in senior primary so she didn't get one. After church, Hannah saw that Spencer also had a crown because the nursery and sunbeam lessons are the same. Hannah was quite upset that she did not have a crown. I took the opportunity to teach Hannah a lesson. I told her that because she had not gone to her class like she was suppose to she missed out on the opportunity to make a crown like those who had gone to class. She understood to a certain degree and it was a big enough deal that I think she will be better next week. I hope so anyways.

On the flip side, Spencer had his best day in nursery and Chad basically dropped him off and left without staying for a little while. He didn't even hardly cry. With the change of the year, Spencer now has two good nursery leaders which is great and there's only two kids for a while as opposed to the 15 who were in there before. More will come in as the year goes by. He'll enjoy that for now though.

We now have church at 2:30 pm which really stinks. That may have accounted for some of Hannah's problems. It's a hard time of day and Hannah is always hungry then. It was hard to get out of church and have it dark outside already.

Singing Spencer

Spencer really likes singing and one of his favorite videos to watch is a primary action song video that g-ma Fromm gave Hannah several years ago. It has all of the primary action songs on it like Popcorn Popping, If you're Happy, twinkle twinkle, Once there was a Snowman, Ensy Wensy Spider etc. He goes around the house singing a lot. You can tell that he has been singing in nursery too. One of his favorites is Once there was a Snowman. I always catch him with his hands over his head (like he is a snowman) and he says over and over "melted, melted, melted, tall, tall, tall,...melted, melted, melted, tall, tall, tall... It is very cute to watch!

Crocodiles

Lately Hannah keeps talking about crocodiles at our house. When she has her baths, she won't sit at the back of the tub because she says the crocodiles are back there. She'll run through the house saying "The crocodiles are coming!" Of course, Spencer screams and runs around after her. Just today he came running into the room I was in with this funny expression on his face and he says "crocodiles coming!" I just had to laugh. This last weekend while the kids were in the bath, Chad helped nurse along the whole crocodile thing. He told Hannah that he had brought a baby crocodile home from work named Billy (Hannah says it's a girl). That was the crocodile in the bath tub. He kept asking Hannah all kinds of questions about Billy and his family etc. So now Billy is the crocodile Hannah talks about. Just this morning Hannah was rocking Billy to sleep so she could have a nap on her bed. I guess as long as Billy and her family are nice and not scary and don't cause nightmares then I am okay with it. I wish I still had such a great imagination.

Zebra stripes

The other night Chad was asking Spencer all kinds of questions just to get him to say words and talk since he is so good at it and we love to hear him talk and say sentences. Spencer was in his pj's and the bottoms were stripped. Chad pointed to the stripes on his pj bottoms and asked "What is this?" Spencer promptly replied "Zebra!"

Car woes

Chad had an early meeting on Sunday which he went to. When he came home he told me someone had hit the car in the parking lot. How lovely is that?!! The guy who hit the car came and found Chad and he gave him his insurance info. Apparently the guy had not scrapped his windshield all of the way and turned wide to get into a parking spot not thinking somebody would be parked on the other side that early in the morning. He knocked the car 45 degrees and smashed the bumper as well as all of the lights on the back passenger side of the car. The insurance has been really good to work with (unlike the last time when I got rear ended) and our car is at the body shop to be repaired. It's costing like $1,200 to fix. I'm glad it's not my bill. The car won't be done though until the 26th so I get to drive a rental car around for the next 3 weeks or so until the car is done.

Salad miracle

Hannah has always strongly objected to lettuce. She is always sure to voice her dislike of "salad" (as she calls everything that looks like lettuce) and will never eat something if she thinks it has salad in it. Out of the blue last night as we were eating dinner, she told me she wanted to try my salad. I was quite shocked but agreed to give her a bite. Guess what? She liked it and helped me finish the rest of my salad. Today she asked to have salad with her lunch, which she did, and then she told me 3 or more times later in the day that she wanted salad. Who would have thought!

Dress Up

Hannah got dress up for Christmas which she has loved. I think she has had to dress up everyday since she got it. Of course her favorite dress is the pink one you see below. Unfortunate for me is the fact that this dress has glitter on it which I did not realize until the first time we put it on her. By that time it was too late. My house is now coated in glitter despite the fact that I have vacuumed the floors, couches etc a hundred times it seems. There's even glitter in Hannah's hair still.

Hannah in her favorite dress up outfit!

Spencer has even tried out her dress up stuff! He might not appreciate this picture later in life! He sure is cute though.

Christmas

Christmas was fun this year. The kids actually let us sleep in until 7:30am which was a treat! It was fun to watch Hannah and Spencer and how differently they reacted to things. Hannah wanted to be in the middle of everything and help everybody else open their presents too. She was very excited and expressive about everything. She was bouncing off of the walls it seemed. Spencer was also excited but he was much more serious about everything and just wanted to talk and say the words for the things he saw. Unfortunate for him, Hannah would say what the gift was before he even got it all of the way opened since she could tell before he could. What do you do?! Spencer just wanted to play with the gifts instead of opening more. Hannah and Spencer are definitely too spoiled!
We did catch a big smile on this one!

The candy is just as much a novelty as the gifts for my kids.

Nativity

On Christmas Eve we went through the nativity story and let the kids play the parts. Hannah was much more interested then Spencer but they both had fun dressing up. Spencer usually lasted at least 5 seconds before he stripped the costume off!

Christmas Eve

I've only tried to post this 50 times now! The new blogger has given me much trouble. Anyhow, we took a few pictures before church while everyone was dressed up. It's about impossible to get a picture with both kids holding still and smiling, but we did our best.

Visit from Santa

The kids got a visit from Santa during the week before Christmas. It was actually a guy from our ward (the same guy who came over on Easter early in the morning to put easter eggs in our grass for Hannah to go out and get) who loves to do that kind of stuff. It was fun to watch the kids. Hannah was very excited and had no fear about sitting on his leg and talking to him. She usually doesn't have an answer when people ask her what she wants for Christmas. Spencer liked Santa but didn't want to go sit on his leg. He was very content to have me hold him.
Santa left candy canes for the kids as well as a big bear for Hannah and a Hot Wheel car for Spencer.

Snow fun

Several weeks ago we got a big snowstorm that left 10-12 inches of snow. Hannah wanted to go out everyday to play in the snow. I wish I still had that much excitement for going out in the snow. We did go out several times and play. The kids had a lot of fun. Spencer had a bit of difficulty walking through the snow between how deep it was and how bulky his snowsuit was. He still had a good time.
